The Rainsfords -June 2009
Jun 17th, 2009 | Guy & Susan Rainsford, Missionaries
Dear praying friends,
Greetings after a long silence. In mid March right after Susan went into surgery and came out fixed with glue, plastic, & stitches, my computer began misbehaving badly and I was thwarted from further communications with the outside world. The long and short of it is that the hard drive died. Three people consecutively then performed surgery on it replacing the hard drive and internal battery. Finally after a long time in the ICU (I was just able today to restore my complete Outlook files) it has been healed and is working normally. Praise God for these machines which we love when they are obeying and pull our hair out when they are misbehaving or broken.
Anyway Praise God Susan has healed completely internally (after 2 post operation infections), and is getting back to her full strength and stamina slowly by slowly. Next week we return to Isiolo. God has blessed us during this time. We have had lots of fellowship being in this missionary hospital & boarding school community (where our daughter Grace goes to school). The most recent place we have stayed is an old English looking house, fully furnished with plenty of bedrooms, a great fire place which we have taken full advantage of, plus a marvelous view of the Rift Valley. It is quiet and very green and often cold here which has been a balm to our souls from the hot, dry and not so private place we have in Isiolo. We have loved being here but we are also feeling it’s time to get home. Pray for us as we transition back to home in Isiolo.
One of the wonderful things that just happened was that we were able to be a part of a dramatic conversion and then death of one of the key people in the village. Abi’s brother Mo, who has been vomiting blood for years. Recently he started vomiting blood worse than ever. I went immediately to the village to see him. In the course of my visit I was able to share the gospel with Mo and he accepted Jesus. Because he was seriously ill from loss of blood we rushed him to the missionary hospital here. During the course of his stay in the hospital a doctor discovered the cause of Mo’s vomiting. His lungs were severely damaged due to TB scaring. To save his life his worst lung, which was practically non-functional was removed. Unfortunately, two days later he died. However, seconds before he breathed his last he opened wide his eyes, looked towards heaven, and exclaimed, “This is of God and He is coming to get me”. No m could say this, only someone who knew God personally through Jesus. Pray as Mo’s testimony is pondered by the ms of the village and beyond. Pray for more conversions. I prayed a lot that God would spare Mo so that his testimony in the village would bring glory to God. I now believe that the death of Mo is going to bring greater glory to God as people come to know that God is the Lord.
Thanks for your faithful prayers.
Please pray because we are in a shortfall of $1500/month.
Under the mercy,
Guy for the Rainsford gang
