Mission Trip to Lima, Peru
July 20 – 28, 2018
Join us this summer on a week-long trip to Lima, Peru!
We will be serving alongside our hosts, Food for the Hungry (FH) and a team from Chesterfield Presbyterian Church (CPC) in St. Louis. The trip will consist of a to be determined work project for the playground we helped fund this past Christmas. Most of our time will be spent developing relationships with the children and families of the Eden del Manantial community of Villa Maria near Lima. We will work with FH daily visiting the community, assisting with parental training, praying, encouraging the staff and playing with the children. We will also visit some of the families of children sponsored by our church and by CPC in their homes. This is a great opportunity to learn more about each family in a smaller setting and to offer our prayers and spiritual support. Each day will end with an opportunity for some team time and debriefing of the day’s activities.
The cost of the trip is anticipated to be between $1700 - $2100 per person. This includes round trip airfare to Lima on Delta Airlines. Based on current fares, the team will likely carpool to Atlanta as the savings is about $500 per person. The non-stop flight leaves Atlanta at 6pm on Friday, July 20 and arrives in Lima at 11:30 central time. The team will stay at a hotel in the Miraflores area of Lima. The hotel, all meals and transportation in Lima are provided by FH. The only individual out of pocket expenses would be snacks and souvenirs in Lima.
The trip is recommended for people 16 years and older. Consideration will be given for younger children accompanied by a parent on a case by case basis. The only physical limitation is the climbing of hillside stairs and walking on uneven ground. The team will be limited to 12 people. The deadline to commit is April 15. Prior to the trip, there will be several team meetings to prepare for serving. The training will follow the Helping Without Hurting philosophy devised by the Chalmers Center.
